ABOUT WHY.BOND
An Independent Educational Resource for the .bond
Created by Thomas Lim — Domain Investor and .bond Ambassador
The Story Behind Why.bond
Why.bond was created to help people learn about the .bond domain extension, understand its many possible meanings, and explore practical ways it may be used.
My interest in .bond comes from both my professional background and my interest in domain names.
I spent approximately 35 years as an independent insurance broker specializing in commercial insurance and surety bonds. During the last 10 years, I also began spending some of my leisure time learning about domain names and domain investing.
As I learned more about the domain industry, I discovered many different domain extensions and began investing in domain names myself. A few years ago, I came across the .bond domain extension, and it immediately caught my attention.
Because of my background in commercial insurance and surety bonds, the word “bond” was already very familiar to me. But as I looked more closely, I realized that .bond could have meaning far beyond the surety bond industry.
The word “bond” can apply to both financial and non-financial subjects — from surety bonds, investments and construction to relationships, communities, science and many other forms of connection.
I also realized that many individuals, businesses and organizations may simply not know that .bond exists or understand the different ways the word “bond” can relate to their industry, profession, organization, community or interests.
That observation became the inspiration for Why.bond.
Why Create This Website?
For decades, .com has been the domain extension most people recognize. It dates back to the early days of the modern domain-name system and has become deeply familiar to internet users.
But the domain-name world has expanded considerably.
Today, there are many domain extensions that can communicate something about the subject or purpose of a website.
A familiar modern example is .ai. As artificial intelligence has grown rapidly, .ai domains have attracted increasing attention from companies, developers, entrepreneurs and others who see a direct connection between the extension and the AI field.
The same general concept made me curious about .bond.
The word “bond” has many meanings. It can relate to surety and insurance, finance and investments, construction, government, business and legal matters. But it can also describe human relationships, family attachment, teamwork, communities, science, chemistry and many other forms of connection.
Why.bond was created to explore those possibilities in one educational resource.
Independent — Not Sponsored
Why.bond is an independent project.
I am a domain investor and owner of .bond domain names. I have also been recognized by ShortDot, the .bond Registry, as a .bond Ambassador, through which I help increase awareness and understanding of the .bond domain extension.
My role as a .bond Ambassador does not make me an employee, contractor or representative of ShortDot or the .bond Registry. Why.bond is independently created and operated, and I have not received compensation from ShortDot or the .bond Registry for creating this website or its educational content.
I am also not an employee, representative or contractor of Dynadot, GoDaddy, Namecheap, ICANN or any other domain registrar or registry.
References or links to registrars, companies, organizations, websites or .bond domains are provided for informational or illustrative purposes and should not be interpreted as sponsorship, endorsement or affiliation unless specifically stated.
Education Before Promotion
The purpose of Why.bond is not simply to tell visitors to register a .bond domain.
Instead, the goal is to provide enough information for visitors to:
✓ Learn what .bond is
✓ Explore financial and non-financial meanings of “bond”
✓ See possible practical uses
✓ Understand domain forwarding and landing pages
✓ Review real-world examples and observations✓ Consider registration, renewal and trademark issues
✓ Decide for themselves whether a .bond domain makes sense for their particular purpose
Not every person, business or organization needs a .bond domain.
The objective of Why.bond is education and awareness so visitors can make their own informed decisions.
A Personal Project Built Around Curiosity
Why.bond began with a simple question:
“Why .bond?”
My experience in commercial insurance and surety bonds, combined with my later interest in domain investing, led me to explore the many meanings and possibilities behind the word “bond.”
Why.bond is my way of sharing those discoveries and helping others better understand the possibilities of the .bond domain.
Information provided by Why.bond is for general educational purposes only and is not legal, financial, investment, insurance or other professional advice.
